Moms Need Support

Moms are busy bees! Making sure their kids eat right and get plenty of exercise, keeping the house in check, and cooking dinner are just some of the things moms do on a daily basis. Here are some iPhone applications to help the Moms of the world (and dads too)!

ShopALot - Grocery - $1.99

Your grocery list made easier! ShopALot gives you prices and nutritional facts for thousands of grocery store products. No longer will you need to write out your grocery list every week, it'll be saved for edits in your iPhone.  If a product you need is not listed, you can add it along with all of the information you wish to include.

Compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch - Version 1.3 released on April 16, 2009.

Baby Brain - $4.99

My parents would laugh at this application. They always say, "we didn't have these gadgets years ago and look at you, you turned out fine." While they are correct, I turned out fine, parents raised in a technologically driven world think in different ways. Baby Brain is made for the technology loving mommy! With Baby Brain, you can track feedings, count diapers used (and poopies, too!), and manage baby's naps! With Baby Brain, remembering the details of parenting is made very easy. Baby Brain was designed by mothers and delivery nurses to help you, the new mommy!

Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch - requires iPhone 2.2 update - released April 27, 2009

shoppingPal - $0.99

Lady's love to shop, but when you have kids with you, there's no time to take your sweet time. Shopping needs to be efficient because your kids don't want to run back and forth from store to store fifteen times in one day. shoppingPal helps you compare items on your iPhone instead of running back and forth between stores. This application allows you to take pictures of the items in question and type in the details you wish to remember (price, fabric, store the item can be found in). You can even record the location of the store by GPS in case you need to run back for your item the next day.

Compatible with iPhone - requires iPhone 2.2.1 update - released May 5, 2009

Food Substitutes - $2.99

If you don't have the ShopALot application, you might forget a few things at the grocery store. Or maybe you've already started dinner and realize you don't have all of the ingredients that you need. With Food Substitutes, there won't be any last minute trips to the supermarket. Food Substitutes can help you find cooking alternatives in eight (8) categories: baking ingredients, cheese and dairy, eggs, fats, oils and vinegars, herbs, spices and seasonings, fruits and veggies, low fat substitutes, and miscellaneous.

Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch - requires iPhone 2.2 software update - version 1.3.1 released May 13, 2009

Baby Translator - $0.99

Goo-goo-ga-ga, me-ma-poo-poo.  Yea, I don't know what it means either.  Thankfully there's an app for that.  Baby Translator translates baby's language so you can easily communicate with him!  Your iPhone records baby's blurbs, analyzes them, then tells you exactly what he said.

Okay, so maybe this application can't tell you what your baby is saying.  But atleast you can say there's an app for that!  Goo-goo-me-ma-moo?

Compatible with the iPhone - requires iPhone 2.1 software update - version 1.4 released on May 16, 2009

BabyPhone Deluxe (Baby Monitor) - $4.99

Imagine that, a baby monitor application for the iPhone! BabyPhone Deluxe works just like a baby monitor. You switch the application on and place your iPhone near your resting child. When a sound goes above an adjustable level, the configured phone number will be called.

With an additional BabyRecorder, your baby's sounds and ambient noises can be recorded. BabyRecorder will record when sounds exceed an adjustable level so you will know how often your baby coughed at night and what the little one mumbles before you're awake.

Compatible with iPhone and iPhone 3G - requires iPhone 2.1 Software update - version 1.6 released February 24, 2009

BigOven - Free

Moms hear complaints from their families about dinner all of the time.  "We had this last week."  "I don't like this."  "I'm vegetarian now."  It's difficult to find new recipes when the kids need to get to soccer practice.  Thankfully, BigOven has a 160,000+ recipe search where you get free access to cooking archives.  You can even add your own recipes!  Recipes can be found by searching titles, keyword, or lists of ingredients.

Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch - requires iPhone 2.1 software update - version 1.0.1 released on October 28, 2009

Scribble Lite - Free

On a road trip and you forgot the crayons and coloring books?  TRAVESTY!!  Not to worry, the iPhone application Scribble allows your little ones to draw, singer paint, sketch, and doodle in many colors, pens in different sizes.  They can even draw right onto their favorite photograph and then shake to erase.

Compatible with iPhone and iPod touch - requires iPhone 2.0 softwar update - version 1.3.1 release July 7, 2008

Moms don't fret, iPhone apps are here to help you yet!

Great suggestions for apps. I babysit often for young kids and will have to use the baby translator since these little ones talk all the time!

I want to suggest a free grocery list app. It is so convenient and easy to use:

http://see.walmart.com/makeitathome/

Its great since you can get on the website and create and save customizable grocery shopping lists from actual recipes! And its free!!

I've just released an iPhone app called Diaper Bag List: http://bit.ly/DiaperBag

It's a very simple app designed for parent's packing the diaper bag in a hurry. As a Dad, I've often forgotten to pack an important item, this app allows me to check off items as I pack them so I know I packed everything. Yes you could use any todo list app for this, but all the features (priorities, due dates, etc) get in the way, especially when you are in a hurry.

I would love to hear your feedback.

Great list! I’ve used many of these apps myself. BigOven is one of my favourites when I’m clueless at dinner time. These are all great apps for Moms, but I have a suggestion. I found a great educational app that I let my toddler use to keep her preoccupied (and she is learning). Check out http://www.toddlercards.ws, covers ABC’s, 123’s, colors & shapes.

I wanted to let you know about my new app. It’s called Aimee’s Babies Baby Massage and it provides step-by-step video instruction for baby massage. A must-have for all new parents, this app teaches parents how to bond with their baby, relieve colic, calm the baby, relieve gas and bellyaches, and help with baby’s immunity.

I am a pediatric occupational therapist and a certified newborn massage instructor and creator or Aimee’s Babies Baby Massage and Development DVD, the top selling parenting DVD on Amazon.com. I am so excited to have this app available so that parents and caregivers everywhere can have this valuable information at their fingertips for the benefit of their little babies!

Let me know what you think at www.aimeesbabies.com.

Check it out: http://itunes.apple.com/us

Another great iPhone app for kids is Schoolhouse, which can be found at http://schoolhouse.mobi. It's great for on the go practice of math facts, spelling, time and other subjects when you have that 10 minute wait in line or the half hour drive downtown.

These are awesome lists and really helpful for mommies! But I'm the frugal type so I am eternally in search for free and useful apps. Big Oven I will surely download. Another free app on my iPhone is Intuition (http://intuitionapp.com/). It is a daily planner, grocery listing, email reminder, location alert and huge community for moms. A lot of things going on there and yes, it's free.

We recently released ToDo Together, built for people to collaborate on the many tasks/errands/shopping lists/household chores we all manage day-to-day. Currently we have an iPhone app available for free and you can learn more at www.todotogether.com/features.

Another help app for those trying to keep the time their children spend on video games or tv to a minimum is Kids' Quotas - Activity Time Tracker may be of help too. It lets you setup limits for the amount of time children can spend on different activities each week or month and tracks the actual time spent.

For example you can setup and track 3 hours of video games a week. They would get to choose when to use their time, within reason, but once their time's up, they're done and the arguing stops.

Your list of iphone applications for moms is awesome and really helpful! Thanks for sharing.

Like every sensible parent, I am concerned about my son’s health rather than educational or entertaining things. Regular sport exercises and outdoor activities should be set as highest priority. From there, I’d add uSwim application to your list:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uswim-teach-kids-to

It shows parents how to teach kids to swim of all ages. The step by step videos and easy-to-follow lesson plans let me teach my son to swim without getting any swimming lessons, at our own pace and place. Moreover, it’s free!
